Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) o the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire, Amb. Anthony Navo Jr has congratulated his incredible AYV team for winning key categories at the maiden SLAJ Awards 2023.

AYV won TV Sation of the Year, TV Presenter of the Year (Phebean Swill), SLAJ Presidential Award (Mamaja Jalloh – DJ Base) and Journalist of the Year /Media Personality of the Year (Amadu Lamrana Bah).

Appreciating the Awards, Amb, Anthony Navo Jr. said: “Saturday, 2nd March 2024, was a huge and memorable day for Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire.  I started the AYV journey with a passion to provide employment for young people and make a difference in the media landscape in Sierra Leone.

“AYV was established in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report, which calls for a credible media space to engage and empower our people by promoting a society that respects and upholds individual rights, as well as the right to freedom of expression, and access to information.

“We appreciate that our hard work continues to be recognised and rewarded. We are honoured to have received numerous awards from the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Annual National Awards 2023. This is as a result of the tireless efforts of our entire team.

“Our journalists represent an incredible story of courage, challenge, and triumph throughout an extraordinary year of excellent journalism, creating a positive impact in the country and abroad. As we move forward, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of journalistic practice in multimedia including in promoting and supporting good, accurate journalism based on content that is not only quality but also ethical, balanced, independent, critical and of public interest.

We receive these awards with deep gratitude and great humility. We are grateful to everyone who has been a part of our journey. Huge congratulations to AYV and our incredible team.”

The SLAJ Journalist of the Year Award honors exceptional journalists who have shown courage, integrity, and professionalism in covering critical issues that impacts the public interest positively and contributes significantly to the achievements of the SDGs.

The winners were selected by an independent SLAJ Awards Committee made up of Sierra Leonean Media luminaries. The coveted SLAJ Journalist of the Year Award  winner among others will receive in addition to the prize package an internship opportunity with the communications team  in UNDP’s Regional Bureau of Africa  Regional Hub for West and Central Africa or at our UNDP Headquarters.

Globally, AYV programming airs through Multi TV free to-air box (SES – our satellite host), which can be seen by viewers in over 212 countries and territories with a viewership of over 180 million. ITV and Satcon also host AYV on satellite.

AYV stream LIVE 24-hrs on the Internet on www.ayvnews.com all our shows on both television channels and radio and the newspaper publishes information in real-time 24-hrs round the clock. AYV’s social media handles come in handy – Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. We simulcast on our social media handles (Facebook and YouTube) 24/7.

As of December 2022, AYV has 3.2 million television households as viewers in Sierra Leone. It covers over 80% of Sierra Leone terrestrially and nationwide digitally (online).

A recently conducted BBC survey named AYV Media Empire as the Best and most watched and Listened – To Media platform in Sierra Leone. AYV Media Empire is a proud recipient of the 2016 Chamber of Commerce Award as best commercial institution and also a proud recipient of the All Walks of Life (AWOL) Best Media House of the Year 2018 and 2019 respectively.

In terms of our conversional TV, AYV TV is ever present in Bo, Kenema, Kono, Makeni, Waterloo, Goderich and Freetown with both Channels 33/34 in Bo, Makeni, and Freetown.  In that case I will say AYV is been watched in over 3-4 Million viewers in Sierra Leone.
