Commissioners and senior management staff of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone have completed a two-week intensive training course on Leadership, Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation.

The training at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) main campus is part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Irish Aid capacity-building support to staff of the Commission.

The first phase of the training which started on Monday September 6, 2021, comprised 10 participants, including three (3) Commissioners.

Topics taught include; Stakeholders Management, Risk Management, Project Communications Plans, Fundamentals of Monitoring and Evaluation, Data Collection Tools and Techniques and Leadership in Management, among others.

At the closure on Friday September 17, 2021, HRCSL Deputy Executive Secretary, Frederick Kamara thanked IPAM for the training provided and stated that as part of the service delivery of the Government of Sierra Leone, the Commission can be more effective in the eyes of the public when they can deliver.

He explained that when the Commission approached the UNDP, a gap was identified for the strategic level to have a refresher on Leadership, Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation, adding

“This is why we have spent two-weeks here at IPAM, an institution that is renowned for providing such services.”

He noted that capacity building is very key in a service delivery institution like the HRCSL because the commodity they trade can only be acceptable when they have an effective and efficient staff that can deliver the service.

“Our performance can be assessed by the quality of service we provide,” he added.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, IPAM, Prof. Edmond Nonie, thanked participants and noted that they have always provided such services to the Commission, amongst many for their short courses.

He described the programmes completed as very vital that every public officer should have as failure to be that equipped will lead to problems within the public sector.

“It is good that you have decided that your institution to partner with IPAM to provide training in those courses. I am sure you love what you have given and it is our pleasure to have you here.  Our doors are always open to have you again here,” he said.
