As part of celebrations marking this year’s International Women’s Day, this March 1st-8th, the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire is putting a spotlight on women.

The Empire is showcasing extraordinary celebrations of International Women’s Day with their exclusive all-female broadcast event, featuring a dynamic lineup of women from across different spectrums, highlighting the achievements, challenges and untold stories of women worldwide.

AYV’s Deputy Director of News and Current Affairs, Elizabeth Momoh said: “The time for change is now! Join us as we build up to 8th March, 2024 for International Women’s Day, rallying behind the global call to “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. Take a stand and join the conversations presented by our beautiful women presenters and reporters, with our women guests as they discuss all-women’s-issues.

“All our leading shows on TV including Wake Up Sierra Leone, Front Page and Sports, will be produced and presented by women, with female guests. Most interestingly, we will hold mentorship session for girls which will identify schools and communities where girls would be invited from diverse backgrounds.

“We will also organise a mentorship session at AYV compound where girls can interact with female leaders, business women/female entrepreneurs, Civil Society Organisations, ministers and/or members of parliament. We will develop a structured program where girls can ask questions and receive guidance on various topics such as education, career and empowerment, to be followed by inspirational talks and questions and answers sessions to inspire and empower the girls”. Madam Elizabeth Momoh informed.

She explained that gender equality remains the greatest human rights challenge, especially in this part of the world, adding that investing in women is a human rights imperative and cornerstone for building inclusive societies.

This according to her, is what AYV has chosen to do. The Company has already invested heavily and created a wide platform for young people, especially women, to realise their talent.

At AYV, a large percentage of its staff is women. The mentorship session for girls as part of the International Women’s Day celebration serves as a valuable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for AYV Media Empire by demonstrating the company’s dedication to promoting gender equality, empowering girls, and making a positive impact in the community.

The COVID pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, climate disasters, and economic turmoil have pushed an extra 75 million people into severe poverty, since 2020. This could lead to more than 342 million women and girls living below the poverty line by 2030, making immediate action crucial.
